To learn Portuguese, you need to practice, practice, and practice. However, there are good ways to do it, and there are ways that can make your efforts backfire on you. For instance, practicing the language too long at a time can cause fatigue, which means you'll end up not retaining much from each session as you had hoped you would. Generally, fifteen to twenty minutes a day is enough. Also very important is that you practice with a partner who speaks both Portuguese and your native language fluently. For example, if you are a native English speaker, your partner should be able to give you accurate English Portuguese interpretation. If you enroll in a language school, of course, this is a given. Once you learn Portuguese, it may be even easier to pick up other romantic languages such as English, French and Spanish. While not similar in essence, these different language styles do have certain things in common that makes it easy for you to understand and learn each of them. So if you already speak English, it'll be easier for you to pick up on Portuguese words " simply because they sound similar and often have the same meaning.
